Is this even possible?
It seems that Liitle Man has come down with a little nasty red, raised rash. It showed up the past few days, as he started to become increasingly more uncomfortable with his teething episodes (no teeth just yet-but I swear at lest one is coming any day now)....he has been breastfeeding like a mad (mini) man too... ![]() It showed up on his hiney, as he is soiling his diaper very frequently, and also on the front patch of skin directly above his boy-parts... ![]() Anyone else have this happen to their LO when they are teething and soiling their diaper more? Or is it something to be worried about? I have tried Desitin cream on his hiney and it seems to sometimes to the trick-- A&D has been tried as well- but this rash seems to be impervious to both. Lately the rash reminds me of how patches of dry skin sometimes show up on my arms/legs sometimes.... Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..... ![]() |

In answer to your question, absolutely! Some of my kids' worst diaper rashes were when they were teething. They also sometimes got horrible diarrhea when teething.
BUT, are you sure that your babe doesn't also have a yeast rash? It doesn't go away with the desitin or A&D....you need something to kill the yeast. Our doctor recommended OTC clotrimazole (found in the footcare section...it's Lotrimin cream), and I've heard that other mamas have had good luck with grapefruit seed extract, too. You can use the clotrimazole under desitin/A&D. Just apply a thin layer, then the regular rash cream over the top. Good luck! ![]() |

Thanks for the super quick reply!Just a quick few questions, though... Is the lotrimin cream still safe if it is not a yeast thing? (I know I have used this cream for other rashes for myself, dh and dd in the past....just not on the little man yet) In your experience, how long does this go on (diarrhea, etc.) before you actually saw a tooth? My Little guy is just so uncomfortable! ![]() TIA ![]() |

We aren't quite teething here at my house.... Although, my daughter does have super sensitive skin, and easily "rashes" When she was only a week or two old, she got a really horrible diaper rash on her poor little butt! The pedi had rec that we try zinc oxide ointment twice daily till cleared (can get OTC at local drug store... I like the generic kind from Walgreens.. it is the thickest!) Anyway, it is the main ingred in most of the diaper rash ointments. The dr also said that it is wonderful to use at night when they will go longer periods of time in a wet diaper.
So, we use desitin creamy most days (just as preventative) and at night use zinc oxide. This stuff works wonderfully! ![]()

My DS has very sensitive skin and gets a rash very easily. He is not teething yet, but I read if they are drooling a lot because of teething it can cause diarrhea and as a result diaper rash. I find this link very helpful (http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/t081400.asp) and I made my own mix suggested in this link and it works wonders. Never had a rash again
. I also started to give him Acidophillus. For soothing sore bottoms: Mix your own - if you can't get a prescription, try mixing these together in the palm of your hand, then apply to baby's bottom: Zinc oxide (Triple paste) White petroleum ointment (A&D) Acid mantle (got at the pharmacy - OCT) Aluminum acetate (order at the pharmacy - OTC) HTH. |
