I know hiccups are normal but they keep my LO awake in the middle of the night after feeds. Is there anyway to prevent them or to treat them?

Caitlyn used to get hiccups every day, several times a day. They usually went away if I let her nurse.

It hasn't ever worked for us, but some people swear by reflexology -- pressure points on the feet. You can get a chart online, but the area that is supposed to relate to the diaphragm and digestive system is more or less the area of the arch. Try gentle pressure massage there. Can't hurt, might help....

My sister told me that if you boil water and then let it cool, then give your lo a little bit, it'll get rid of the hiccups. I tried it and it worked with my dd. Something about the boiling of the water that makes it work.

My mother gave a drop of lemon juice to my son, which got rid of the hiccup but made me really mad since I was told that citrus fruits are a no-no until 9 months because of potential allergy concerns

My SIL insist it is caused be being cold. She explained this as she tried to wrap my baby in a heavy blanket. Did I mention we were in FL outisde in 95 degree heat? My LO started pouring out sweat and I said NO!!

My mother insited the hiccups came from overeating. My pedi says it's normal. Something about her nervous system. My DD gets them at the end of digestion: eat, spit up, hiccup.

My son had reflux and bad gas. So I bought some gripe water called Colic Calm. It works WONDERS for all of those things, and for his hiccups. With reflux, babies tend to get hiccups ALL THE TIME (right before he spits up all over me
) So now when he gets the hiccups, I'll give him a half dose of Colic Calm and BAM they're gone! If you're interested, the website ColicCalm w/ a dot com at the end. |

Sucking helps, whether it's on a pacifier or nursing or your pinky finger.
