    Default unfinished breastmilk?

    Hi,
If I heat up a bottle from the fridge of pumped breastmilk (never been frozen) and it wasn't finished, can I use that for the next feeding? f so do I leaved it out at room temperature or put it back in the fridge and reheat it for a second time?

    Thanks!

If it's been drunk from and you don't plan on using it in the next hour toss it. Bacteria grows at that point.

I think the rule is 1 hour once they have put their mouth to it (saliva can mix with the milk and allow bacteria to grow). You can leave a bottle of freshly pumped breast milk at room temp for 3-4 hours as long as baby has not drank from it yet.

Actually, it can be at room temp for up to 10 hours. http://www.kellymom.com/store/handou...ilkstorage.pdf

Personally, I would reheat it and offer it at the next feeding if I put it back in the fridge. I've done it.

This may be useful, as well.

Glad to see someone admit to reheating. Although I don't really heat things unless it's coming from the fridge and needs to be used soon. I try to have one set out so it can get to be room temp and ready to feed.

I only get 8 oz of breastmilk a day, and I'm trying to get my son to nurse again. Needless to say, I'm not throwing ANY of it out!

I've smelled ebm that has gone bad before. Trust me. You'd know if it had gone bad!! It took several days for it to get there too!

    Breastmilk is some hearty stuff!!

My husband used to leave it out and use it again within 2-3 hours. I thought you weren't supposed to reheat it, but I'm not sure where I got that info. I generally go by the sniff and taste test myself.

We will use it if it's been less than 4 hours.

So glad I don't have to go searching for a thread on this topic as it came up today when DH was heating up a bottle.

I reuse milk all the time. Seriously. He never really drinks a whole bottle at once, and I'd be dumping too much milk. G is a snacker.

And I've never ever had a baby get sick from using a bottle again a couple hours later.
