The center answers callers' questions free of charge based on studies about medications' effects on infants and pregnant women or nursing mothers.
The InfantRisk software is unique to the center and was designed by Hale. It automatically finds the most recent data about the medication in question so operators can relay the information to callers, Hale said.
"It shows us all current data and research data," he said. "This is evidence-based data. In medicine today everything is evidence-based. Particularly in pregnancy, that's really critical."
