Mothers who are pumping exclusively face exceptional challenges and need special support. Many of the usual solutions to breastfeeding difficulties don't apply. You might feel very alone even (or especially) when surrounded by other breastfeeding mothers. Few people understand what's involved in EPing and even fewer understand why you're going to all the trouble when you could just use formula.

Here you can find other mothers who understand—and on the hard days can help you remember—why you're EPing.

If you're in the early days of breastfeeding, having a horrible time, and are thinking it would be easier to pump exclusively instead, you're welcome to ask questions here. But the answer you'll invariably get from mothers who have been there is that exclusive pumping is not easier.

Unless there are extenuating circumstances (like a medical condition, for example) that make breastfeeding impossible, in the long run it is much easier and simpler to feed your baby at the breast. Most of the time, breastfeeding difficulties can be overcome. In-person counseling from an LLL Leader or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant can help.
