Default LO forced to not nurse for two days, need input.

So, my husband, in an unstable frame of mind, took my son to his moms house for two days. I was not legally able to take him back, since that is his father, and technically he was doing nothing illegal. That is an issue in itself, and I am taking care of it, trust me.

Anyway, neither DH nor my MIL bathed my son or brushed his teeth the two days he was gone. Not to mention that my son still breastfeeds, not only at night, but during the day as well. I don't pump, so he just randomly went two days without breastmilk. He is 20 months old.

My question is, my son got home last night, and his pee is darker and has a bit of an odor. I know DH and MIL were giving him undiluted juice to replace breastmilk. He never, ever drinks undiluted juice. Could this be why his pee is darker? I am keeping an eye on it, and will be taking him to the doctor in the morning if his pee doesn't clear up, now that he's back to nursing and WATER to drink primarily.

That sounds like dehydration to me. If he normally nurses a lot, maybe he didn't drink enough juice to make up for the missed nursing sessions.

with pp's. Darker pee means more concentrated due to fewer fluids. Allow him to nurse freely and offer water often. If he's peeing, he's okay Momma. I'm glad you have him home safely.

I agree. Dehydration. Something to note if you want to keep track of reasons your husband should not be allowed to take your son.

    Absolutely.

If you and your husband are in the middle of a separation or a divorce and he is displaying this type of behavior, I can't urge you enough to go ahead and seek the advice of a lawyer to get custody arrangements made for the time being. This happened to me when I was in the middle of a divorce and my husband took my son for two days past what he was supposed to without sufficient medication for his asthma. It was horrible. I would never wish that type of worry on anyone.

I think in your situation I might bring him to the doctor to get the dehydration confirmed by an outside medical professional. It would be valuable evidence to have if you needed it IMO.
