    Default Should I be counting???

I have noticed on here that many still know the number of feedings thier LOs do and I quite frankly have no clue about my LOs. Should I be keeping track? I nurse her on demand and I know some days are more demand than others but I don't count.

I don't really count or know how many times my lo nurses. I can guess an estimate but at 16 months I know that he can regulate what he needs and I don't worry about it.

I don't. Some days its as few as 2 or 3 some as much as a newborn. I just follow his lead. Somedays he'll only eat a bite or 2 of solids, other days I think he eats more than me. I think the same rules apply, if they are making enough wets/poops, gaining weight and are otherwise happy and healthy, then no worries.

the only times I counted was when DS was a newborn and I was trying to establish my supply and when I went back to work for pumping purposes, otherwise I didnt.

I don't, I can't...we went to her 18 mo appt yesterday and our doctor asked how many times/day she nurses. I said maybe 10? but some sessions are just a few minutes or less so it's hard to count. I don't bother. She asks all the time, it's probably more like 8-10 at night and then another 10-12 during the day.

I only try to count because my pedi and her nurse both ask how often and for how long, and just wait with poised pen for me to come up with something they can write in the chart. "Whenever he wants, for as long as he wants" apparently is not acceptable So in the few days before his doc appointments, I try to keep track, though I don't clock it and usually make up a number for duration. If I bring DH to the appointment, I shift the burden to him, "how long does he nurse for?" And DH has no idea, either.

I don't count. I just know it's a LOT. I think they say that if your baby/toddler nurses more than four times a day, you don't have to give them cow's milk. So I do keep track of that, and I can tell you, Joe nurses four times in the first HOUR after I get home from work!
