    Unhappy Safe cold medications

Anyone recommend safe cold medications I can take while breastfeeding? I am miserable here.

I have the same question! I've been sick for about a week and have only been using cough drops--this doesn't help the symptoms I'd normally take an antihistamine. Can anyone help us?

    Exclamation Re: Safe cold medications

I looked in my "Medications and Mother's Milk" book by Thomas Hale. He lists every single cold medicine and its risk level. The only one that he categorizes as "Safe" is Alavert. Almost every other medication is listed as "Probably safe", but some are associated with a reduced milk supply, especially Sudafed. And there are a few he cautions against. All of the nasal sprays for congestion are safe, so that could be a way to go. If you have a question about a specific medication, feel free to e-mail me and I will look it up for you.
