    Default Autism and breastfeeding????

Just read about a study that links autism with breastfeeding? PCB's which are still found in the environment today are magnified in breastmilk because of the fats.

I know it was only rats in the study, but the concept that I am harming my child with breastmilk is terrifying!!! What's everyone's take on this?

maybe one of theese would put your mind at ease:

    from that link

"Despite the increased evidence of PBDE contamination, the researchers noted that 'breast-feeding remains the single most important choice mothers can make for the health of their babies, offering innumerable benefits to mother and child.'"

Fetal exposure appears to be the biggest problem. While testing levels of contaminants in human milk provides a good indicator of fetal exposure, breastfeeding may actually help overcome some of the harmful effects that occur during pregnancy, the researchers said.

Most studies show an inverse relationship between autism and other developmental disorders and breastfeeding. And the same pollutants that get into human milk get into cow's milk too, so formula is just as likely to contain the same toxins.

Didn't think of it that way. Basically we live in a toxic world. Blech.
