Upper lip tie? What say you?

Here are some links that show how lip ties can affect BF and all the dental issues that go with it. We compiled a list of things in an online group for mamad like us who have been told lip/tongue ties are no issue. Like I was told by many "professionals" but have prooved them all wrong!

So our pedi thought he didn't have a lip tie but did have a tongue tie! So confusing! We are seeing an ENT tomorrow so we will see what they say. Will probably say he has neither!!

Well ENT says no tongue tie but had never even heard of a posterior tongue tie so that doesn't seem very convincing! And they don't separate upper lip ties at all so no go there anyhow. Grrrr. Very, very frustrating. Have a name of a doc in the area that does tongue ties so am going to call them tomorrow to see if they know anything about posterior tongue ties and if they clip upper ties. If not, I think I will let it go. I'm not even convinced he has a tongue tie and the upper tie may or may not be a problem. For my sanity I can't stay obsessed about this, you know? I'm pumping to supplement and he is starting to grab at my food so maybe solids are close and I can feed him lots of avocado!

Both DS and DD have upper lip ties. I have not had latch issues with either one. DS's resulted in a gap between his front teeth. DD just starting teething on top so we will see. I asked both our pediatrician and pediatric dentist about them, and neither was really worried. The dentist said that DS's will need to be cut before his adult teeth come in to help with alignment, but otherwise it is not a problem.

BTW, both my mom and I had the same problem. We both had our lips corrected when we got braces.

If it is just a lip tie, he won't have problems with solids, but a tongue tie may. Hope you have better luck the next doc!
