Default Breast Shield Fit Question - leaking milk after pumping

Hi, I have a Medela Freestyle pump. I'm wondering if my breast shields fit ok. They feel ok, but when I am done pumping I always have milk dripping out of them that gets on my clothing. I try to use a cloth to soak it up when I remove the shield, but I'm not always successful.

I don't really care if I'm at home, but I am going back to work soon and am imagining wet spots on my lap from when I remove the shields.

Does this happen to everybody or do mine not fit right or?????

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

I have this same problem but what I do is when I am done pumping before I take the pump away from my breast I kind of squeeze the rest of the milk out of the nipple by pressing right behind the nipple (kind of hard to explain). I get another squirt of milk out like that and I don't leak. hope that helps.

I don't leak from my nipples, rather milk has gotten in around the outside of my breast in the breastshield. It leaks from the outer rim of the shield - if that makes any sense.

I was thinking of just taking a bath towel to lay on my lap while I pump. But I guess that's sort of odd.

I have that problem too, but it's more exaggerated w/ the soft fit shields that come w/ that pump. You could try the firm ones - I liked them better for other reasons anyway.

Yes, I have the soft fit! I had no idea they made firm ones. I've never seen them at BRU. I will check online. Thanks so much! It seems like the firm ones might pump more efficiently. The soft ones get sort of "squishy."

They will be called "Personal Fit" - you should get the kind that need separate connectors (it will be just the "cone" part). I've never seen the standard size (24mm) @ any store where I live, so I had to order them online.

When I tried to switch to a Freestyle (long story), I got a raw place on one breast from where the soft fit shield rubbed against it.

Do you have a Target nearby? You might want to check in the baby section there, I've seen all the various pump accessories, including the hard shields, there.

Seen them at Meiyer as well, but they're only in the midwest that I'm aware of.

If that doesn't work, does your hospital have a little lactation / mother's shop in it? If they sell pumps, especially medela ones they are bound to have the various bits and pieces you'll need if you can't find them elsewhere and don't have time to wait on shipping.

This Site will help you with fitting.
