Default Would it be so bad for me to start pumping now?

So I just had my son on the 22nd, he is now 1 week and 4 days old. He has been latching and feeding great. I know that it's not generally recommended to introduce a pacifier in the first couple weeks but we offer it to him occasionally and it has not affected his latching. Not to mention he constantly has wet diapers so I know that he is feeding great. He eats constantly. Every 2-3 and half the time almost every hour. Family always asks me if my husband and I want a night out sometime, or there is times where I may have to be away from him for more than an hour or two. Not to mention I want to start pumping as soon as I should before I return to work because I work long 12 hour shifts so I need and WANT to have an ample supply. I had heard that it's not a good idea to start pumping so early because you can pump yourself into oversupply. When it does become the best time for me to start pumping how much and how often should I be aiming for??

Anyone else start pumping this early on? Keep in mind that I wouldn't be necessarily introducing bottles this early... probably not for another week and a half or so.

My DS started STTN at 3 weeks so I would get up once at night to pump, still am acutally. At 5 weeks I started pumping after every feeding, to empty my breasts as DS had issues with this. I ended up increasing my supply doing this but got a great freezer stash which is nice because now he is eating more than I am pumping while at work! I think if you pump once or twice a day it's not that big of a deal, just watch baby and make sure you don't start having OS issues.
Married to my soul mate "Dr. Al" 8-22-09
