My little one is 5 1/2 weeks old and eats completely at random. Sometimes will want to eat 15-30 minutes after previous feedings and other times will go 3-4 hours between feedings. There does not seem to be any pattern. Sometimes the frequent nursing time is in the morning, sometimes the evening.
While this is not a big deal to me while I am on maternity leave, I am worried about when I go back to work when he is 12 weeks. I will be away from him for approximately 14 hours on the days I work (only work 3 days a week). I am concerned that that it will be hard for anyone taking care of him to know and understand his randomness of hunger. Is there a way to gently help him get a bit of a schedule?
I am not interested in trying to get him to eat precisely every three hours or anything of that nature, just want to make his life a little easier for him once I go back to work. All I can find in literature suggests just letting them cry for a while, which just doesn't seem right to me since he so little and is such a good little guy.
