Smile Pumped Milk - how much to give 5 week old?

how do i know how much to give (expressed milk in a bottle)?

my son is 5 weeks old and i'll be going back to work soon. he'll be with me at work. i plan to give him breast milk in a bottle while i'm there. how do i know how much to give him?

we supplement at night with formula anywhere from 4-6 ounces. but i've heard that he would not need as much BM as formula.

    TIA

If he's with you at work ... is there a reason you can't breastfeed?

The general rule is 1 to 1.5 oz EBM per hour.

Will someone be helping you? If you need to feed your baby with a bottle and also pump at work it may be hard to get anything done.

Have you tried nursing while wearing your baby? Many moms like to nurse while baby is in a Moby wrap, a ring sling, or a mei tai carrier ...and there are MANY other options for wearing baby to nurse.

Check this link out: How much expressed milk will my baby need?

Every baby is different, and you will need to figure out how much your LO needs to eat each time. Like the PP said, 1 to 1.5 hours/hour on average. My LO eats 4 oz at a time... 2 oz, and then another two usually within a half hour or so. My neice was different, she wanted all 4 oz in one sitting. It will be a bit of trial and error. Hope this helps!

Check the links provided, there is some great info there about how much to provide for baby. If your baby is a snacker now it will probably be the same with bottles, my daughter was like that too. She'd eat 2-3 oz bottles about every hour and a half to three hours.

But I also wanted to add that if you're interested in nursing at work, babies typically get MUCH more efficient at nursing right around 3 months or so (different times for different babies) and can empty the breast much faster. So it may be a possibility for you as she gets older. It would certainly be a lot easier than pumping and less time consuming in the end I think.
