Or in the UK "baby led weaning"

basically skipping purees and going directly to finger foods

    baby self feeds
BLS I HATE the term baby led weaning - which seems to be used everywhere else but on this forum. I got ALL CAPSED at on another (mostly US board) for correcting them that it was nothing to do with weaning. Starting solids is about learning to eat not about weaning
proud but exhausted working mammy to two high needs babies

    • my surprise baby: the one and only D-Man born 3 weeks late (5/5/08) at 9 lbs 14 oz and 21.5 inches, and
    • the shock H-Girl born about a week late (10/7/09) at 8lbs 15oz and 20.75 inches.

If I am here I am covered in baby (probably two) and fighting for control of the keyboard.

    Family beds are awesome

Wondering if you have PPD? Take the screening and see your doctor. You deserve to feel better.

I understand why, I dislike it as well - but since this is the only board I could find that referred to it as "baby led solids", it took me a long time to find more resources (after I discovered it is more commonly called baby led weaning by most resources). It does make it confusing for mama's who decide to do further research after becoming intrigued by the topic here when it is termed differently.

    Updated guidelines doc here:
    http://www.rapleyweaning.com/assets/blw_guidelines.pdf

"Weaning" just means different things in British and American English.

The UK definition is starting solids. The US definition is ending breastfeeding. I've read where people consider starting solids the first step towards ending breastfeeding ... even if it's a process that takes several years.
