Default How do they figure out the difference...

Today was my first attempt giving ds solids. I mashed up a banana and tried to help him get a little in his mouth. I put some on my finger but he just sucked on in. How do they figure out the difference and realize they can't just suck to get those solids in. He will make chewing motions when he watches us eat so I know he can.

You should do a search for Baby Led Solids/Baby Led Weaning, lots of mamas on this forum follow that approach. It's basically letting baby self-feed at his/her own readiness. No need for mashing or purees, just whole foods that are soft enough to mash with their gums.

We are planning on trying some bls, thanks for the link! Even when he smashed some up on his little fist he just tried sucking it off, it was funny to watch though!

My LO is starting to make MMMMM noises when he is eating something he really likes. Its so cute to watch, especially as he is starting to do it at my boob as well.
