    Default too much solids?

Baby #2 started solids at just after 6 mo. He really took to solids and has been doing great. No tongue thrust and a normal gag reflex. Does well with self feeding and actually prefers if we "load up" a spoon and let him put the spoon in his own mouth.

I'm trying to go slow ... but baby seems to be "asking" for more and more and more.

He gets some food at day care (so far just sweet potato & butternut squash) plus if he's awake more when the rest of us are having dinner. So far he's polishing off everything we give him and seems to want more.

So far this has NOT affected breastfeeding and he's nursing just as much.

I want to "listen" to baby BUT I don't want to negatively affect breastfeeding, especially since he's so young.

(Baby #1 didn't really eat solids until he was about 8.5 or 9 mo old and has always been a "light" eater.)

I think as long as you are nursing first, you don't need to worry. It definitely sounds like he's ready for solids!

our boys sound a lot alike! DS1 was slow to taking solids, but DS2 seems to always want to try something, and has never had problems eating. I did slow down, only because he didnt seem to be pooping a lot and I was worried about constipation but I think he is also at the age where he is going longer periods of time between dirty diapers. I think if M is doing well, than I wouldnt worry!! It is so strange how different two kids can be isnt it?

Sounds like one hungry boy! If he is nursing before eating, I say the more the merrier! Just watch for later on if his nursings decrease.

    Lynn,

Shiloh was like this. Its hard. He just started and never looked back. I feel like he weaned early, but there was no convincing him. He wanted his solids. I'd say nurse him first and the rest is up to him
All over the world there exists in every society a small group of women who feel themselves strongly attracted to giving care to other women during pregnancy and childbirth. Failure to make use of this group of highly motivated people is regrettable and a sin against the principle of subsidiary. ~ Dr. Kloosterman, Chief of OB/GYN, Univ. of Amsterdam, Holland

    Thanks!

At DCP he's still finishing ALL the EBM I send in (~ 12 to 14 oz in about 8 hours) and so far ALL the food. The DCP are great with breastfed babies and I don't think have been over feeding him.

At home he's nursing steadily - including STILL nursing every 2 to 3 hours at night

We'll just keep following his lead ... and I think its going to be quite a journey!

Hi, just read through all this and wanted to say that my son is almost 10 months and when he first started solids after 6 months was very hungry and excited. I just nursed first then let him go. Then, he decided he would rather nurse and not eat solids. Now at almost 10 months, he is loving solids again and still nursing well. You are doing great! Our children let us know what they need, we have to trust them.

Baby had sweet potato and butternut squash for "lunch" then had more with us at dinner. And was "asking" for more so I gave him a slice of pear. Still wanted more so I gave him some puffed rice.

And still nursing just as much!

    New nickname is "hungry boy".
