Default LO FIRST solid--how to ?'s

I just want to make sure I do this right instead of finding out afterwards that I should have done it differently. We're giving LO her first solid in the morning. We're giving her bananas--well a small bite, of course. Most of the stuff I've read talks about cooking fruit, but is that necessary with a banana?

Do I just mash it up and give it to her--on my finger? Do I need to mix it with bm? Or can I if I want? I'm so worried she'll choke, but I think I'm just worrying for no reason. Anything else?

And are the jarred bananas any better? Or why do people use those?

    No, raw is fine.

Sure. Or on a spoon. Or if she has mastered the pincer grasp- that is, thumb and forefinger- you could just put some mushy pieces on her high chair tray and see if she puts some in her mouth. You might want to search this forum for threads on baby-led solids- it's an approach that works for many moms here.

You don't need to, but you certainly can if you want.

And are the jarred bananas any better? Or why do people use those?
People use them because they're convenient.

Enjoy your baby's first adventures with solids!

another amazing fruit you don't need to cook is avocado.it's also full of good nutrients.
DS really likes it.I give him a spoon with a little mashed up avocado and he feeds himself.
don't worry if not much gets swallowed at the beginning...and be ready for some mess!

my son hated jarred banannas. they have a horrible gloopy consitancy. plus they are a waste of money. A fresh bannana is much cheaper, travels well and all you need is a spoon to mash it or cut into small chunks.
