Default Milk production, pumping & baby sleeping the night?

I give my baby one formula bottle at night. I then pump. Now my baby is sleeping night. Do I pump before I go to bed to relieve my breasts or do I pump to mimic a feed? Should I try not to pump during the night and will my milk get used to not having to produce over night? If baby sleeps do I pump when I need to again and do I mimic a feed or pump to relieve? I'm very confused. I heard my breasts will adapt but I fear ruining the great milk production I've been having even with the formula bottle but I don't want to have to pump all night long? Nor do I wish do I want to get mastitis?? Help

...because I have a history of depression and medical condition that thought I was going to go into a mental institution from the lack of sleep after one month of breastfeeding every two hours through the night?

Yes, I did get over the hardest hump I'm certain plus recovered from a c-section while exclusively breastfeeding . Now I'm guessing my child may sleep more during the night but just a habit since life is going so well for mom, dad and baby.

did you consider trying to pump and have DH to give bottles of EBM at night?this way you will keep up your supply and get some sleep too.plus you won't need to give formula anymore.

I thought that formula contains more fats and lasts in the baby belly longer....

It's just very heavy to digest...not the best option IMHO

Breast milk has more fat than formula. But formula takes longer to digest since it is rougher on the belly.

Thank you for this information. Should I skip the formula - and my baby bc older sleeps for a good portion of night, DO I PUMP DURING THE NIGHT OR BEFORE I GO TO BED? I fear mastisis and being severely engorged so my baby wont be able to latch? what if I dont pump before bed or middle of night and my milk production slows too much? Oh I noticed that around midnight, about two and a half hours since my babys last feed that I dont produce much when I pump at that time. Is my body adjusting to his sleeping the night or is my milk production slowing?

if you don't want to wake up at night, pump before going to sleep.if you plan to pump in the middle of the night you might as well nurse,it is more effective to keep your supply up.
have you tried cosleeping?this helped me a lot when I was sleep deprived and I needed to keep my supply up.
if you decide to pump before sleep your body will probably adjust if you nurse on demand in daytime.
if you feel engorged you can hand-express just a bit for relieve.

Default THANK YOU ALL - Back to 100% Breastmilk

Back to 100% breastfeeding/milk. Forget the soy. Got myself a good double pump and any pumping I plan on doing I will do during the day so I can go to the gym or whatever! and my husband can give him a breast milk bottle if need be. He's going longer hours between feedings. The Baby is sleeping plenty of hours on breast milk, I roll out of bed and feed him. None of the middle of the night insanity - and he's getting the best. All allergy related symptoms GONE.

Thank you all - I was a little miffed at first bc I knew you were all right
