    Default DH wants to try...

    My DH has become very interested in wanting to give our baby who is 12 1/2 weeks old "tastes" of our food. He wants to put things like milkshake, frosting, ect. on his finger and see if the baby likes it.

    I know nothing about solid feeding...considering our son is only 12 1/2 weeks old. SO, I was wondering what your thoughts/experiences were with this. IS it possible that letting the baby "taste" things will make him sick? Or hurt him in some way?

    Thanks...

    Why delay solids.

    The following organizations recommend that all babies be exclusively breastfed (no cereal, juice or any other foods) for the first 6 months of life (not the first 4-6 months):

    * World Health Organization
    * UNICEF
    * US Department of Health & Human Services
    * American Academy of Pediatrics
    * American Academy of Family Physicians
    * American Dietetic Association
    * Australian National Health and Medical Research Council
    * Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
    * Health Canada

    Thank you guys so much! (for the links, and also just for responding so quickly).

    Maybe now my DH will understand why I am so adamant about nothing but boob for now. I believe that when our DS is not only ready mentally for it, but also phyically, he'll let us know!! Those links are great, though - i'm going to have DH take a look.

    THANK YOU!!

    its way to early for healthy solids let alone junk like icing and milkshakes. I'm on my phone so I can't post links but google baby led solids and show your DH some info from the link from PP.

    I didn't look at the links, but at the very least explain that it is best to introduce single ingredient foods so if there is an allergic reaction, you know what your lo is reacting to. Icing and milkshakes have way too many ingredients to possibly single something out.
