    Default Pacifier most like breast

My 3 month old uses me for comfort nursing at times. If he was my only LO I would be fine with it, but I have 2 other kids that need me sometimes! He doesn't like the pacifiers we've tried (Avent and Soothie) and maybe he just isn't a pacifier lover, but it would be nice to be able to give him one once in a while. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

He may just not want a pacifier.

Have you tried wearing him in a sling so you can tend to the older children while comfort nursing?

I second wearing your baby so you can be hands free.

The Gerber NUK was the only pacifier that DD2 would ever have anything to do with.

My DD liked the Playtex Ortho Pro and my DS prefers the Gerber Nuk. Neither one of them wanted anything to do with the pacifier until they were 4-5 months old. Each child has their own preference.

I had a sling and hated it. I have a Moby now which I like, but nursing in it just doesn't work.

Yeah, he just might not be a pacifier lover. That's fine, I just thought I would see if there was some magical pacifier out there I didn't know about.

    Thank you for the suggestions!

I guess just keep trying the different pacifiers. My first DD had a mini ma'am (sp?) and liked it. My second DD snubbed pacifiers and sucked her fingers. My third DD was in with the Soothie but weaned off at five months, which I was happy about. I feel now that I prefer not using one to prevent early weaning and having to wean from a pacifier.

If the pacifier doesn't work. Have you tried nursing while wearing your baby upright in the Moby?

I'll have to find the recent thread where kathrynk describes how she does it. Her DS nurses best in the Moby I think she said. I don't have a Moby, I have a Baby K'tan (which I like because it's easy) but same idea, I think. Wear your baby on your front, facing you with head about breast level. Have your shirt pulled up, position baby a little to the side to reach the breast and latch on. I have to hold my breast for a second until she gets a good latch. You might try YouTube or google for an online tutorial on how to do it.

I nursed my super distracted baby at the state fair a couple times and she even stayed latched through a nap. I checked out cars at the car show, signed my older girls up for a rock climb, etc. I have helped kids do homework, etc, and nursed all over Dallas wearing my DD. It's a different tactic than a lot of moms do in the US, but it makes for less stress for us. Maybe it's a solution that will help keep you mobile.
