Default Nursing an 8 year old...

Okay so an expectant mother friend of mine posted this link on facebook yesterday

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxv6R9fUO74

It shows a mother who is still nursing her 8 year old daughter. I don't feel right judging anyone's decision to breastfeed, whatever works for you ya know, but i'm hoping my DS will give it up by age three or so! but anyways, my friends post caught the attention of many, as it drew many negative comments. There were a lot of "that's so disgusting" "sick" "i wonder if her husband gets jealous" and even "she should be put in jail".

However, what i was offended by were comments about how "once they get teeth it needs to stop", or "if they can ask for it then they don't need it" . I left a comment letting them know that baby led weaning and toddler nursing is completely healthy and beneficial. and also told them that the AAP was revising their statement, recommending 2 years now instead of 1. and let my friend know that the teeth arent really a problem at all! Anyways, the next comment someone left said that they "tire of hearing sanctimonious breastfeeding mothers preach about how long you need to breastfeed."
I don't know if that was directed towards me personally, but i was the only breastfeeding mom speaking out for nursing (well, besides the mother in the video)

anyways, just wanted to share this.

It's ok for sanctimonious non-breastfeeders to tell us how long we shouldn't nurse for, though. Right.

This video has gone around a few times now. If mama and child are happy, who's business is it??
