Thread: Refrigerated milk goes to rm temp- OK to cool again?

Default Refrigerated milk goes to rm temp- OK to cool again?

I have a breast milk storage question:

If I take refrigerated breast milk with me to run an errand & don't use it & it has now become room temperature, is it Ok to refrigerate it again for future use (within the suitable time frame from the original pumping date)?

    Thank you.

I'm curious about this, too - for instance, if my son stays with Grandma and doesn't finish all the milk I've pumped for him?
    So... *bump*

I've heard, and this is the rule that I always followed (pumped for dd for 14 months) and never encountered sour milk from it, that you can recool it once and use/freeze within 24 hours. I can't find a link with that info, though.

I follow that rule also. As well, if a bottle isn't finished, I have always had it put back in the fridge within an hour and it has been ok. Of course, that's the next bottle to use. If it's not used within 3-4 hours, I toss the leftover.

    from Kellymom:

If baby does not finish milk at one feeding, it may be refrigerated and offered at the next feeding before it is discarded.
and by next feeding I assume no longer than 4 hours.
