Thread: Acid-sour smell

    Default Acid-sour smell

Both my husband and i notice a very mild acidic and sour smell every time we thaw out milk, so we have thrown out everything that i have pumped over the past three months (dozens of jars).

We have tried three different freezers, all with the same results. Not dependant on time of storage or front or back of freezer.

Is this a normal smell? We do not want to give it to our baby if it doesn't smell EXACTLY like fresh milk.

    thank you,

    Maru

Did you happen to taste it?

I'd wonder if you have a lipase problem. The milk is still good, and some babies will still drink it, but it might smell and/or taste funny after being frozen or stored for some time. There is LOTS of information here about lipase.
