    Default Tomatoes

DS is 13 months old. Haven't introduced tomatoes yet. How did you give tomatoes to your LOs? When you cook them, how did you make them tasty?

    TIA!

How about Spaghetti sauce? My dd doesn't like the texture of raw tomatoes.

My DD thinks tomatoes are one of the best things on earth. Try giving him a little piece, he may like them just as they are! But yeah, she also likes them cooked in things like spaghetti sauce, chili, etc.

What do you put in the spaghetti sauce? Whenever I have pasta, I usually use the sauce out of a jar.

This is how I usually make it:
    1 lg can crushed tomatoes
    1 lg can of water
    1 can of tomato paste
About 1T basil & oregano (salt & garlic if you want)
    splash of olive oil
Cook on high covered for about 30 min, then tilt lid and cook for about 3.5 hr.
I like to also put in zuchinni and peppers too.

I do mine a bit quicker, but the same idea. Saute some onions and peppers, add what ever meat I'll be using (beef or turkey), brown that, add canned tomatoes, black pepper, garlic powder, what ever else sounds yummy, tomato sauce if it needs to be a bit runnier - simmer for a bit, then eat. Tasty, and DD loves it. I don't add salt to anything I cook.

If you want that long-simmered taste, put the sauce in the crockpot and ignore it until dinnertime.

I brown some meat, add a large can of crushed tomatoes, toss in some diced onion (fresh or dried), minced garlic (fresh or dried; can't have too much in our house), basil and oregano. I also like rosemary but dh doesn't.
