Is it possible to build a milk supply 3 weeks postpartum without having really pumped or breastfed for that long?
Has anyone reading this gone through something similar?
Hello, I'm new to the board but not new to breastfeeding. I have a 5 year old, 4 year old and 2 1/2 week old. I breast fed my first 2 boys until they were 11 months old. Im dying to breastfeed my little girl but have some issues! You see, I had preeclampsia and hellp syndrome for this delivery 2 1/2 weeks ago. She was born healthy at 36 weeks gest! I was on bedrest for 3 months prior to the birth. I was also taking 3 g (max dose)of aldomet for the last trimester. I was kept on bedrest at the hospital a week after giving birth as well. Was not able to breast feed since I was on magnesium sulfate but I did breastfeed her twice at the hospital once I was off the mag but my milk had not even come in. I never quite really got engorged. The goal was to get my blood pressures regulated and out of the hospital so I was on many meds.. Lisinopril, Lebetalol and hydrochlorothiazide. Once I got home (still on bedrest) pressures went haywire and meds were adjusted... I asked docs if i could take something sutiable for breastfeeding.. all this time they thought i had given up so ... i'm back on aldomet and labetalol which are level 2 so i will be able to breast feed in 2 more days once the lisinopril leaves my system. I had not really been pumping all this time and only staretd 2 days ago. I find it hard t pump and dump, feed the baby and care for my other 2 boys .. it's all overwhelming.. i try to do it at least 3 times a day which i know is not enough. I only find about 10 ml at each session.. and my dauhghter is already guzzling up 2 1/2 -3 oz of formula at each feeding.. How can I compete! I've read that women on bed rest, or women that had pre-e or hellp, or women that received magnesium have trouble producing milk.. I am hoping that it wont be the case for me. I hope I can find some advice or support to achieve my goal to breast feed her! Loking foward to sharing with all of you!
