This is my first post ever and I would appreciate any feedback I can get. I must say that after the first two weeks breastfeeding is the most wonderful experience in the world. I currently have two problems though. My first is that my 11 1/2 wk son is refusing to take a bottle and I go back to work in 2 weeks. We have been working with him for 3 weeks and it is not going well. He now starts batting at the bottle, pushing it away most times when he sees it. I am so extremely worried right now. I work about 25 miles from home and there is no way I can go home for lunch at this point. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
My second issue is that the past 4 days has not been nursing well during the day. He will eat for about 15 minutes and completely drain my one breast when he wakes up at 5am and then again at 7:30ish. After that though he will only eat for about 5 minutes max and then he pulls off and starts smiling and "talking" to me. I have tried not to make eye contact with him but he starts making more noise trying to get my attention and he is so cute and adorable that I can not ignore him for more than a few seconds. The problem is that he will not go back on. The first day I tried working with him to take it and even tried swithing sides but this does not work. He gets realy fussy so I just sit and talk and play with him. My concern is though that he is not getting enough milk. 5 minutes every hour or two I would think is not enough. He does nurse for about 30 minutes around 8:30 pm and then goes to sleep for 7-10 hours. Has anyone ever experienced this? My mom breastfed all six of us and after talking to other friends that have breastfed none ever experienced this so I do not know what to do since this does not appear to be normal ... Thanks!!
