Default when can I give lentils?

LO just turned 6 months on Friday

I will raise her vegetarian and I'm worried about protein and iron. When can I introduce chick peas, lentils, kidney beans etc etc??

    thank you!

I would think you could do it now. I don't think there's a reason to wait? I think it would be hard for her to pick them up and eat them at 6 months, but you could mash them up.

Check out this website. It has lots of info on when to introduce foods, you can even search by the food you want to intro. Good luck!

ETA: the site says 8-10 months for the intro of legumes. : )

Just wanted to add that my (veg) baby loved picking up & eating (soft) beans from about 8mo (that's when our doc's list said legumes were okay). One of his faves has always been sprouted lentils. If you eat a balanced diet, your LO will follow your example, especially if you do BLS. DS is now 3rd-generation veggie (on my side, 2nd gen on DH's), and DH & I never had any nutrition problems.

Peas have a lot of iron, too.

    - and frozen peas are a great teething food, and a fun treat on a hot day.

Hi, I'm a vegetarian too, and I introduced lentils at between 7 & 8 mths. Started solids at 6mths.
