Default Almost 1 year - Is she nursing enough?

My lo is almost one...I'm just curious if she is nursing enough. She still won't drink from a regular sippy. I'm interested in bottle weaning by the fall - so I only offer water in her Nubby (which she'll do a few sips of from time to time). she also eats three solid meals a day.

    Anyway...she typically nurses:

    upon waking between 7-8 a.m.
    before lunch 11:30-12ish
    after nap between 3-4 p.m.
    before bed 7-8 p.m.

Sometimes one more session either during the day before her p.m. nap or somewhere at night....

So, between 4-5 times a day...

    Does that seem like enough?

    Thanks for any thoughts...

My understanding is that an older baby needs at least 3-4 nursing sessions per day- if they are getting less than that, you need to supplement with formula (when baby is less than 1 year) or whole milk (over 1 year). So 4-5 sounds like a good amount for a baby who is nearly 1. However, I don't think you should be afraid to offer the breast more frequently- perhaps before solid meals, or as a snack in between meals.

Thanks for the replies. I've stopped nursing my first baby at 10 mo. so nursing at 1 and past 1 is new to me. I got a little nervous b/c she slept through the night 10 p.m - 8 a.m. last night without nursing at all - and am just hoping she's getting enough.

Her wets and poops are great.

She poops after each meal (3 times a day).

She loves solids and eats really healthy foods. I usually offer a fruit and/or veggie and some kind of meat at each meal and she eats it all.

If her diaper output is good - and she is growing - i would not worry.

I think my daughter was around 5-6 times at that age

    Everything sounds good though.

That's exactly where we are at and we're 1 month behind you. J nurses in the morning, bottle of EMB at 9am, 1pm, and 4pm, and then nurses again before bed and STTN.

On the weekends she usually nurses the same amount of times, about 5x...we may squeeze in a 6th time if she's really thirsty. She also eats 3 meals/day and 2 snacks.

Congrats on getting to the year mark!

It sounds good to me! Every child is different, once they're toddler age all you can do is offer and follow their lead. Mine dropped down to nursing only 1-2 times for a month around 14 months, and then picked it up again nursing 5+ times a day! I was so stressed, but it was just something we went through. You sound like you're at a perfect spot.

Thanks again for the responses! She will be one on Friday and is exclusively nursing and eating 3 meals a day (plus a little water from sippy cups). I've been watching her pees and poops and she's doing great. I really appreciate the encouragement. It helped me not to worry and not to try to supplement.
    Thank-you!
