I am new here and so glad I found you! I had a 32 week premie in February and I have been exclusively pumping for her. I tried for 6 weeks after she came home to BF, but was unsuccessful. She would try for a while, and then give up and we would have to suppliment 1-3 oz. It was taking me up to 2 hours to BF, bottle feed the breastmilk, and then pump and clean up. I finally gave up on the breast feeding due to frustration, and just pump now. I really mourned not being able to BF, and was told by my MD and several LC's that is was VERY difficult to get a baby back on the breast...but it sounds as if several of you were successful. I go back to work in 3 weeks, but would like to BF if at all possible when I am home. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to make it work?
She receives only breastmilk, and I have a large supply, so that is not an issue. I do think I have a slow let down though as it can take 30 minutes to pump 6-8 oz. I pump every 4-6 hours, and she is thriving now! Thanks in advance!
