Default Supply dropped, now what do I do???

I'm feeling really lost right now. My DD is 4 months old and we have been doing great breasfeeding. I went back to work 2 weeks ago and in just the last few days I have noticed that my supply has dropped. I know it's not ideal to wake up with engorged breasts, but I used to and now I don't. During the day she has about 12 ounces of pumped milk while I am at work. For the last two weeks I could pump in the morning after I fed her and twice while at work and get about 14oz. The last few days I am lucky to get 12 ounces.

I don't know where to start. What do I do? Should I talk to my dr? If so, do I go my family doctor or ob/gyn? I feel so confused, worried, and lost...

How is her diaper output? Pumping is no indicator of your supply, and 4 months is very typical for your supply to regulate (i.e. no more engorgement in the morning).

If she is still having plenty of wet and dirty diapers, you are fine, and then you can just look into ways to try and increase your pumping output. Things like visualization, compressions, herbs, increased water intake, and decreased (I know...hard!) stress all help.

Here is a good site as well. www.lowmilksupply.org

Diapers output is good. I had no idea that pumping output and supply weren't the same...good to know! It makes me feel a little less worried. I will check out the website you posted.

I do think I need to drink more water. I will make that my goal this week!

w/ pps. Pumping is not an indicator of how much milk you have. Babies are more efficient at getting milk out. Plus, if your LO has been sleeping longer stretches at night for a while, your body has adjusted your supply, so that's why you don't feel engorged anymore.
