Thread: Storing breastmilk in bottle after use?

Default Storing breastmilk in bottle after use?

My mom is watching my daughter while I am at work. At the moment my daughter is taking about 3 - 3.5 oz of breast milk. There are times when she doesn't finish the bottle.

I have heard conflicting info on what to do with remaining milk from the bottle. The lactation nurse said you can't reuse the milk from the bottle once the baby has drank from it. She said it's an issue of bacteria getting into the milk.

Then I read online on babycenter.com that you CAN put the partially used bottle back in the fridge and use it again later.

Any insights?? Breastmilk is so precious, but I don't want to get my little one sick!

I was told that I could reuse it at the next feeding, as long as it was re-refrigerated and within 4 hours. Remember, BM actually destroys bacteria (go, mama's milk!). BM is precious, so I would use all I could!

I know there's another thread about this; I'll find it & bump it for you.
