Default pumping for preemie/ peppermint question

i have a preemie in the NICU and he's 3 weeks old. After I had him, i recently got a sinus infection. i don't want to use drugs. i heard that peppermint oil can clear up the sinuses and relieve the pain of the sinus headache pretty well, but i also heard that peppermint oil can reduce your milk supply. i'm not going to be drinking peppermint tea, only inhaling the steam from the oil and water. this shouldn't effect my milk supply, would it?

    Peppermint

Large amounts of peppermint (Mentha piperita) are known to decrease milk supply. Not recommended for nursing moms. Peppermint oil and tea can be dangerous if given directly to babies.

Inhaling peppermint won't affect your supply, IME. As long as you don't apply any oils directly to your skin, the chemical compounds aren't absorbed by your body. This is why you can use oils like peppermint and eucalyptus in a steam bath for babies, while you would NEVER use oils that volatile on a baby's skin. The peppermint should help you open up.You could add eucalyptus and/or tea tree oil as well.

    Hope that helps!
