    Default Antibiotics Question

DD is taking amoxocillin (sp?) Her BMs have turned a yellow green. Is this due to the antibiotic? I do not believe that it is a foremilk/hindmilk issue since we have had no problems thus far and when I have dealt with it in the past the poops were foamier. Sorry, tmi. What are your thoughts? TIA

It's pretty common to experience irregular poop while on antibiotics. One of the major components of a healthy intestinal tract is bacteria, and antibiotics do not, unfortunately, distinguish between good and bad bacteria. Your baby's poop should return to normal when the course of antibiotics is over.

Ahhh... Sorry your little one isn't feeling well.

Although I'm not a doctor, I do know that antibiotics can sometimes cause some diarrhea (since both the good and bad bacteria is killed when taking antibiotics), so your first thoughts may be right on. Many mothers have found taking acidophilus helpful in replacing the good bacteria in their bodies. Some even use it as a paste for baby's diaper area.

Of course, good communication with your ped is positive.

    take care,
