Blanching is most often related to latch problems. So, if you feel the latch isn't right detach baby & start over until you get a proper latch.

Vasospasms are usually really painful and the blanching occurs after the nursing session is over. Are you having much pain? If your nipple is coming out of his mouth white you're probably right that he's not staying latched well enough and he's compressing the nipple.

Some babies will do it at the end of the feeding when they're no longer nursing actively. If that's the case with yours you might want to take him off when it seems like he's full. Or if he doesn't seem to be done yet, take him off and relatch, like Renee suggested. You might also try a different nursing position if he has trouble staying on well on that side.

The trouble with a latch that compresses the nipple is that it can cause damage to the nipple over time. So if you can correct it whenever his latch slips, it'll probably help you avoid problems later.
