    Default Anyone else hand express???

I started hand expressing this time around (my second baby). I couldn't figure it out with the first. now I can hand express more milk than I can pump. I'm thinking I like it much better and that it is much more convenient. Does anyone else do this??? I am also looking for tips or techniques to express more milk more quickly by hand....

I only was able to express anything by hand at all after about a year and a half of nursing. So I've never done it with a fulling BF supply.

I know someone's mom who only hand expressed for her while she worked!

Do you use both hands or one hand on your breast the other on the container? I find that if I can use both hands on my breast and I can sort of lean over whatever I'm pumping in I can empty pretty quickly. With one hand it's pretty slow for me.

I've tried but can't seem to figure it out. But my half sister told me she used to get tons of milk that way!

I do get more from a manual pump than an electric, so I guess that's halfway.

I watched a video that someone linked here once on a good tecnique and I did express a couple ounces relatively quickly but it wasn't as comfortable to me than my manual pump and I actually kind of hurt myself a couple times in the process But, I have read that it is often the most efficient way of expressing milk

Love hand expression. I mostly use it at the end of a pumping session to get more milk out. My hands get too tired if I try to get all the milk out by hand.

    I do same as Stephanie.
I am from Ukraine and had my first child born there 15.5 years ago, so, ofcourse, I didn't have any pumps and then I've learned to hand express.
Never liked it, was struggling with the whole BFing process anyway and only could BF my LO for 5-6 weeks.
This time around, throughout my whole pregnancy, that was the only dream I had: BFing my LO. To tell you the truth, I have JUST ENOUGH milk, but...she's 3.5 months now and still exclusively BFed! Even though I work and pump! And yes, now I'm more "educated" and "trained", so I use both: pump and hands, and I get much more milk by using hand than pump, like if nothing is coming out when using pump, I continue with hands and always get more!

Sorry for a long reply, but just wanted to share my story:-)))

I do the exact same thing. I was amazed at how much came out after a 15 minute pumping session!

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one. Don't have time now, but I'll have to watch the video at some point. I'm so glad that I've been able to learn to express some with my hands instead of the pump. I know we all LOVE to pump! i usually use both hands and lean over my container/bottle. I get more that way. I also hand express after pumping to empty my breasts.
