    Default Sick and Low Supply

I caught a cold about two days ago and now my milk supply is going down. I used to be able to pump 2-3 oz per session but this afternoon, I only got 1 oz. Is there a connection between sickness and milk supply? Should I be supplementing with pumped milk in the meantime to make sure LO is getting enough milk. Most people say that LO can get much more than the pump can but I want to make sure he is getting enough to eat.

    Thanks

Yes. Many moms notice that their milk supply is reduced when they are sick.

If your LO seems happy at the breast, and satisfied when he is done, there's no reason to supplement with pumped milk, and a good reason not to: since babies are more effective at emptying the breast than the pump, the more you allow your son to nurse the faster your milk supply will rebound.

Sorry you're not feeling well! Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Pumping is NOT an indicator of supply. If your LO is having enough wet diapers, you're doing fine.

    Get well soon!

A little tip IMO : make sure you increase your fluid intake, it will make you feel better and might help with your supply.

Hope you feel better soon! being sick sucks!

Drink lots and lots of water. Eating a bowl of oatmeal daily helps keep your supply up also.

You don't need to give your LO any extra milk unless he is not having enough wet diapers. That is the best indicator of how much they are getting. Get well soon!
