My son is 14 months old. And I am happy to say that we are still BFing about 3-5 times a day. But he seems to have trouble when it comes to trying to eat table type food. I am still having to buy 3rd foods to feed him.
I have people look at me like I am crazy to still be feeding him 3rd foods. He has a very bad gag reflex. He is able to eat the meat sticks by Gerber. And maybe a few bites of the potatoe mashers. He tends to want to nurse more it seems. Is there something that I could do?
My ped. wanted me to take him to Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital and let an OT do a food study on him..(We live 30 miles south of Nashville, TN.) That I should not be feed him puree type foods at all and that he needed to not be nursing so much. Well I found a new ped. and she is very much pro BFing. But has said that I may want to consider the food study. I feel that my son should have a bit more time to learn to eat more table food type foods. And that he can continue to nurse for as long as he wants. He is still getting nutrients from me. He is about 32 inches long, and he weighs about 25 pounds. HE has always been in the 90-95th percential for length. But has only been in the 50th per. for head and weight. But the new ped. feels that he is very healthy.
I am a first time mom and feel like I am second guessing myself as a mother. What do I do? Do I take him for the food study or do I give him more time? And I am not about to stop nursing him now. He is still a very advit nurser. And he likes to nurse for comfort, when he is teething, and especially at bedtime and in the early morning. Luckily he self weaned himself from the night feeding when he was 10 months old. He will BF in the middle of the night some times when he is cutting a new tooth. (We are working on # 6 now.)
If anyone has any insight in this matter I would love to hear from you. Thanks for any support that anyone gives
