I am supposed to start taking birth control pill (Desogen) for non-contraception related issue.
Little one is 11 months and I was planning to BF until he is 1 year-old.
Pedi says this pill is category 3, but that to be on the safe side, I should either wean him now or pump+dump a couple of times after taking the pill so he gets less of the hormones form the milk.
What's the verdict with BCP and breastfeeding? I'll appreciate help here. Although I need to take the pill, I still feel terribly guilty about weaning him now.
He is not crazy about being breastfed. Since he was 4 months old, I can only BF when he is drowsy or sleeping. At other times, he takes it form the bottle. About a month ago, he started refusing the bottle, too. He now takes it from the spoon or mixed with other foods.
I had to stop BF for 2 days due to some other medication, and gave him frozen/thawed pumped milk. He did not complain about not being at the breast for 2 full days. So, I'm guessing he will be easy to wean.
