Default When did your baby start to nurse efficiently?

    Hi there,
My baby is past the two-month mark now, and still takes an hour to an hour and a half to breastfeed. What's normal?

Does she nurse for 1 hr/1.5 hr or is she nursing every 1 hr/1.5hr?

My baby used to take that long to nurse, too, especially when he's using me as a pacifier to get himself to sleep. I think he was around 7 months when he suddenly could finish a breast in 10 minutes or less.

I had O/S and still have OALD, so DD hasn't really had to learn efficiency at the breast yet. She's 3.5 mos.

I think many babes get more efficient around the three month mark, but every dyad is unique.

Also, your LO is still so young, and they pack several growth spurts into those first couple of months. Also, it's helpful to remember that nursing is about so much more than food. Baby often uses the breast to soothe, and just to feel secure in his/her world by staying close to mommy.

It won't last forever, so pour yourself a big glass of water and settle in with some good reading and the remote. She'll have you up and running before you know it!!

Keep up the great work Momma!
