Thread: I need a Quick response, LLLadies!

Default I need a Quick response, LLLadies!

OK, my mom just defrosted one of my EBM baggies (date of the breast milk is 8/29) to give to DD in a bottle and she said that the consistancy is different from the all the others she's defrosted. That is, it's a little lumpy (very small-like pinhead lumps). It smells fine and tastes fine...should she still give it to DD? Anyone else experience this?

I did, it was from a bag that hadn't been frozen very long as well - I threw it out because I couldn't get the lumps out and didn't know what could have caused it.

Could it be that the fat content was just a bit different? Like maybe you pumped that bag after nursing or something?

How long has it been frozen?

ETA: you already said that. It should be fine IMO.

is it completely defrosted? or could the lumps be ice?

personally *I* would base my decision on taste and smell - not the look of it

My thought was the fat as well, but I really don't know. IME, if it tastes fine and smells fine it's ok to give your LO!

That's my guess. It's the Cream or Hindmilk. If it tastes fine and smells fine feed it. AND FYI breastmilk is not like Cows milk where someone will get sick if they drink it and it's "Bad". In that this milk is made specifically for this human being you are making it for. Your child will NOT drink it if it's off. And you can trust your child to make that call.

    Way too lazy for formula

According to my mom, it's completely defrosted. It was frozen on 8/29.

Thanks, ladies! I thought it was fat as well but I needed to get more experienced mamas to sort of confirm it.

I wondered if it was just the fat - next time I won't toss the homemade goodness!!
