    Default Milking it

I had a late night with my 10 month old and the day I have feared has arrived. I forgot to pack up all the parts for my pump as I stumbled out the door for work. I have my pump and storage bags, that's it!

I am part of a vanpool and going home was not an option (on top of the fact home is about 2 hours away). I REALLY did not want to go purchase more parts since I am planning on purchasing a new pump next pay day. SOOOO, I had once came across a LLL forum mom who had told her story about "milking" herself...no pump of any kind involved. I thought I would give it a try...

Did you ever milk this kind of cow?
    Well, we can do it.
    We know how.
If you never did, you should.
These things are fun and fun is good.

It took me an hour to get 5 ozs. UGH!

It's an art!! I found that softer breasts were MUCH easier to "milk". Practice every once in awhile and you'll get better.
    I also had that day!

see, the pump never worked for me. i could "milk" myself and get about 6oz in about 5 minutes... but i would pump for about 30 minutes and get 2oz at the most.

That's crazy! can you please describe to me how you could milk yourself? And in only five minutes???? Sometimes I can't pump at work, but I am wondering if I coudl take five minutes in the restroom and "milk myself." I would LOVE it if I could! Please share!

lol... well, i do jsut that. i milk myself. hahaha! i don't really use any of the compressions that i hear people talking about. i have found that using the way that gets the most milk out works best for me (it might be different for everyone... who knows, i've never milked anyone else. hahaha!) what i do is put the bottle right over my nipple, and lean forward (a pillow on my lap, to hold the bottle.)... at thaht point i take both hands and start about 1/2 way up the breast, and push towards the nipple. pretty much like milking a cow. lol.

Medela do a special funnel for hand-expression, the funnel attaches on to a medela storage bottle.
