    Default 3 days business trip

Don't know where to exactly post this, so I'll try here:
a friend of mine has to go on a business trip for 3 days and is worried that she'll "lose" her milk... LO is 12 mo and still nurses a lot over night (reverse cycling I believe).

I told her that she shouldn't worry at all but then I had doubts... she never pumped, so bringing a pump is not an option... I told her that just to be sure she should empty the breasts a little at night with hand expression, so to tell the body that it shouldn't stop producing...

    Experiences? Advice?
    TIA!

She can definitely hand express for comfort. Or purchase a handpump - they are very inexpensive.

well, no, nurses as soon as the hit home from daycare, at night and before leaving in the morning... on weekends, during the day too.

she has a small electric pump, just never (or almost never) used it.

ladies, you make me worry, do you really think she should be concerned? for 3 days? I mean, even if she doesn't 'produce ' as much when she's away, don't you think that when she's back, with the massive stimulation she'll have (her LO will probably latch on for 36 hours in a row, ) the supply will be up again?

now I worry that I gave her the wrong advice...
    tell me more, please!

    thanks a heap

I am just thinking 3 says - 2 nights it might not effect her supply HUGELY but I would worry more about moms overhealth breast health... there might be something on kellymom.com or the LLL pages.. but I cant go looking I am so late as it is Ill be back to see what others have said later.

As Eme, said, depends. Two nights away, shouldn't be a problem. I would advise her to pump as she would nurse though, just for comfort, to maintain her supply, and to avoid mastitis. Once back with her LO she should be fine. Didn't mean to worry you.

ah, you both meant mostly for her... *relief* I thought I'd given her very wrong information about her supply!
    thanks for your help!

I just saw a typo: I meant to say that I wouldn't advise her to pump as she would nurse. Just for comfort.

yeah, she wouldn't have done it anyway (pumping as nursing), for once that she can sleep... and who can blame her??

    thanks again!

I agree that she will almost certainly need to pump for her own comfort. Either a hand pump or her small electric would be perfect. Her milk may go down a little, but should come right back when the little man latches on for those 36 hours That has been my experience with my daughter.
