    Default More milk?

I pump exclusively for LO. He's 10 weeks old now and seems to be wanting more milk per day than before (28-32oz/day vs. 24-27oz/day in weeks previous).

I'm confused because I've heard two different things:
    - They will require/want more as they get bigger and their stomachs can hold more
    - They should be eating about the same amount months 1-6 because the milk I make is perfect for him at the time

What's right? If LO is hungry, I will obviously feed him, but I'm just curious...

Hi. I've been thinking about your question for a few days. This link says milk intake doesn't change much between months 1 and 6.

Could your LO be experiencing a growth spurt?

I think a lot of the calculators out there are to help moms who primarily nurse figure out how much to put in a bottle for their LOs when they are away (work, etc.).

This site calculation says "It is my understanding that this mathematical formula does not work as well as the baby gets older and bigger." http://parenting.ivillage.com/newbor...,,77sw,00.html

This calculator (linked from page you provided) seems to be based on baby's weight. It seems to be more in line with what the pediatrician says (feedings increase slightly as baby gets older and bigger based on calories needed and calories in bm - but again, don't calories in bm change?!) http://www.fourfriends.com/cgi-bin/milk.pl.

It's possible he's having a growth spurt. He's not taking much more than he was initially... I'll keep an eye on it in the months to come to see how much it changes. Thanks for the reply!
