Default "Slippery little buggers aren't they?"

10 points if you recognize the quote above!

I try to give DD diced pieces of banana or avocado, but she has a really hard time picking them up because they are so slippery. She ends up opening her mouth for me to feed them to her, which is totally not the point of using diced pieces in the first place! I tried splitting the banana into thirds and giving her a chunk like that, but she just mashed it in her fist. Should I just focus on other fruits and veggies that are easier for her to self-feed?

DD would mash in fist first and kind of squeeze it into her mouth....you could try rolling it in crushed cheerios, we did this w/ peaches and pears at first. DD only did the mash thing for a couple of weeks and from then on it was pincer, pincer, pincer despite the slipperiness (word?)

I have a video clip of a banana flting out of Norah's hand. I would just help her grip it the best I could, but that crushed cheerio thing sounds like a good idea.

Yup, crushed cheerios worked for us too...for a short time...until DD figured out how to suck the cheerio dust of the food and throw what's left on the floor!

I put avocado on a spoon for our dd and give her the spoon. She does the same thing with the squishy stuff- avo & banana. But, I figure it doesn't hurt her to practice using her spoon either, just a variety.

I would just give my DD half a banana and she would pick up the whole thing and take small bites. It was easier for me and lots of fun for her. When she got to the end I would break the last of it into littlepieces and feed them to her. It's not too messy either.
