Default She's almost 11 months, is whole cow's milk ok?

I seem to recall reading that babies shouldn't have cow's milk until they are 12 months old. However, I want to get a jump-start on getting her used to the taste of cow's milk. Is it ok to let my almost-11 month old LO just *try* it in her sippy cup?? I am still nursing her when we're together and pumping while I'm at work for her daycare bottles.

    Thanks for the help, mamas!!

P.S. The reason I am asking is my DD will have to transition up to the next room at daycare once she turns 12 months, and although she will still be drinking *some* breastmilk from a sippy cup while she's at daycare, there is a good chance she will also be drinking cow's milk too.

Well if you didn't want her to have cows milk in the upper room, you wouldn't have to let her have it and considering how much BM she'll still be getting, she may not have a need for it at all. (not that she'll automatically have a need for it if you were to wean. You can meet the dietary requirements other ways...

    from that link:

There is no need for additional milk or (or the equivalent nutrients from other foods) as long as your baby is nursing 3-4 times per day. Cow's milk is really just a convenient source of calcium, protein, fats, vitamin D, etc. - it's not required. There are many people in many parts of the world who do not drink milk and still manage to get all the calcium, protein, fats, vitamin D, etc. that they need.

Has she had cheese or yogart?
I would try thoose 1st and watch for tummy trouble or rash before I introduced cows milk in a sippy cup.

Thanks for the input, mamas! She eats some yogurt (but doesn't LUV it) and eats cheese no problem (she LUVS cheese, gets that from DH, I think.)

Oh, also wanted to add we have no family history of any allergies...

I read on the link the number3 posted that introducing cows milk too soon can cause some intestinal issues, so I think we'll just wait a while longer!!!

    Thanks again mamas
