DS is almost 5 months old. I wanted so bad to wait until 6 months to start solids. Then at 4 months 1 week he was put on a steroid for a few days. He started crying everytime he saw us eating, reaching for our food, and was soo hungry I couldnt keep up. I gave him rice cereal, and for 2 days he loved it-until he came off the steroids. Then he would fuss and push his tongue out when I fed him. So last week he started another steroid-and this time he cried all day for 2 days til I gave him some cereal, and was good. For about 2 days he ate 3 solids a day (all were offered after breastfeeding). Friday we started dosing him down off of the steroid. Well now he is refusing food again!! Is this on again off again routine okay for him?? I would loove to hold off on solids for another month, but should I push the solids since he has already had some?

Absolutely not, do not push solids. The steroids probably made him ravenously hungry and since your supply couldn't keep up, the cereal helped and that's fine. But when he's off the steroids and is pushing the solids away, then he's telling you he doesn't want them. There is never a good reason to push solids, IMO. Just go with the flow with your little guy since sometimes he has to take steroid and sometimes not and this will alter his appetite.

Yeah, just follow his cues. He might not even want solids again until he's a bit older than 6 or 7 mo. You never know. The good knews is breastmilk is all a baby needs for the first year.

My lo is on again off again on solids at 7.5 months. Some days she loves them, and sometimes she won't even look at them. She even gags sometimes, especially if I pursue feeding her when she isn't interested.

    Good luck!
