Unhappy weight update and referral to GI specialist.

today sarai had her 6m check up.
She went from 11.9 to 12.2 in one month
The good thing is that she had stayed at 24in for 2 months this month shes grown to 25 3/4.

Ped said she needs to see a GI specialist so we have to travel to Madera to the Valley Childrens Hospital for that. We are just waiting on a refferal now. What is a GI specialist and what could be causing this slow gain since i know its not related to my supply?

sucessfully breastfeeding my little princess for 10 months we are absolutely in love I know Im giving her the best and I know she'll grow healthy and strong!!

GI stands for gastrointestinal. Basically it is a gut doctor! Some baby's have problems with absorption of their food due to various reasons, and the GI specialist can look at her history and prescribe any testing he/she thinks may be necessary. Some baby's just gain weight slowly, so you never know what they'll say or want to do. I hope all is well! Goodluck!

    shes has grown though!

DId you show concern over the weight/growth before the doc? He might just be referring you since he has no solid answers ..y/k?

Remember - they start to slow down around this age too...

Did you ever print this out and chart her growth using it to see her growth curve??

so she gained 9 ounces right? Is she moving? crawling, rolling around? Super distracted with her nursing? Most babies are at this age. Babies slow wayyyy down at this age, prior to this it was 1/2 ounce to an ounce a day, which would mean 2 pounds a month, thats the high end! The 1/2 ounce a day would be a pound a month, so she is just a little lower than that? Also how are you and you dh built? And, we have to remember that weight checks are not accurate unless they are done on the same scale, same time of day, full bowels, empty bowels they all make a difference..And if she has been sick etc.. 12.2 is small for 6 months though, what was her birth weight?

I just wanted to kinda speak for her in this case because she has been through so much... she has worked very hard to get to where she is now, with regard to nursing! She's a champ! We've watched (and often helped) her through weight check after weight check and I think she might have been expecting something a little more (am I wrong in that mama?)

Seriously.. she's on the charts... she's gaining and she's happy... we're not in a worse place than before you went in... she's still doing well...

Oh no mama - you didn't sound harsh at all - I was just making an attempt to shine a little light (from my perspective) on her situation...

I don't remember birth/discharge weight but I know it's all chronicled in her posts...
