Default introducing solids for a preemie

My LO just turned 6 mo - he was born one month early - I'm wondering if I should go ahead and start to introduce solids or if I should adjust for the one month and wait until he's 7 months. Any thoughts?

Yes, he's become very interested in watching me eat and has started reaching for my plate and glass. I think he's also started to mimic chewing.

heres a great link about solids...

    http://www.llli.org/NB/NBsolids.html

    from one of thoose links
Your baby is starting to get ready for solids when:

he is about four months old
he becomes more sociable, playing and holding "conversations" with you during a nursing session
he has a growth spurt and nurses more frequently for a while
he imitates the chewing motions you make whilst eating -- he is practicing!

You will know that he is really ready to start solids when:

he is about six months old
he can sit up without any support
he continues to be hungry despite more frequent nursing which is unrelated to illness or teething
he has lost the tongue-thrusting reflex and does not push solids out of his mouth
he can pick up things with his finger and thumb (pincer grasp)

Babies who are ready for solids can usually feed themselves. Mothers often report that they knew their babies were ready when they picked up food from a plate, chewed it, swallowed it, and wanted more.

Listen to your baby! Babies with a tendency to allergies may refuse solids until later in their first year. As long as they are growing well and are happy and healthy, there is no need for concern

Thanks for sharing the delaying solids weblink to kellymom. I'm in the same situation as the original poster, she's about to turn 6 months but was 4 wks early and I've been really worried about her digestive system being ready to take solids. My ped told me to start w/veggies and fruits before cereal around 4 months but I never started because of my worries. I was happy to read that article and I e-mailed it right away to my Hubby since he's also been pushing to start solids. It was another back-up to what I've been saying all along to him.
    Thanks so much!
