Question New to pumping - when and how much??

I have been breast feeding for 2mths and just found out that my baby has an allregy to cow's milk protein so I have to give up and pump for 2 weeks until he heals then I continue to breastfeed with a dairy-free diet.

My question is how often should I pump and when? Do you advise pumped during the night?

Please help! I have no idea.

My baby is 11 pounds 7oz if that helps!

i would think you'd have to pump every time your lo eats, even at night

you should pump for each missed nursing session to keep up your supply. Good luck! I hope you figure this out soon

I pump almost exclusively and have to pump every three hours around the clock to keep up supply. You can try pumping when your LO would regularly nurse to start and only do the 24/7 if you notice your supply dropping.

Thank you so much, I am glad I asked because I haven't been doing anywhere near that. I hope I haven't caused any damage to my supply. I have just been pumping a larger mount, around 5 oz, whenever I feel engorged but I will start on every 3 hours now. How muh do you think is a good amount to pump with each session? I'm sure I couldn't get 5oz if I pump that often...

5oz is a GREAT amount to pump. Most ladies who pump exclusively will get 2-4oz per session. Sounds like you have plenty.

good luck. I was in a similar situation and it resolved itself by the six month point. I always commend moms who pump. It is literally twice the work. No real advice just encouragement

I exclusively pump and just make sure I do it about every 3 hours, 6X a day. NOT after 8:30 p.m. or before 6:00 a.m. I have been able to pump plenty w/ extra.
Schedule looks like this (I pump for 15 min. each time and 10 min at the 8:30):
    6:00
    9:15ish
    12:30ish
    3:15 ish
    6:15ish
    8:30ish
    HTH!! Good Luck!
